Especially the Millennium Forum because I practically grew up in it. My home is 5 miles from the venue and from the age for 4 I was singing, dancing, reciting poems, you name it. There’s method in the seeming madness of Beoga, the most exciting new traditional band to emerge from Ireland this century.” Wall Street Journal
Beoga (gaelic for ‘lively’) are based in County Antrim, in the north of Ireland and provide the sensational live music for the Take The Floor Show. The band are hugely successful and have appeared on the front page feature in the St Patrick’s Day edition of the Wall Street Journal and In 2010 their album ‘The Incident’ was shortlisted for a GRAMMY nomination for Best Contemporary World Music Album.
The bedrock of their sound lies firmly within the Irish tradition. However, they are not afraid to incorporate other genres’ nuances into their music. From bluesy riffs to Astor Piazzola-style jazz, to a raunchy New Orleans jamboree vibe, their music always returns to a wonderfully bouncy Irish sound. The result is traditional, with a huge sense of fun and adventure which when married with the flying leaps, rhythmical percussion and masterful choreography of the Take The Floor dancers becomes something magical, extraordinary and out of this world!
“Nobody does this stuff better at the moment. Beoga are at the forefront of the new Irish wave.” Irish Music Magazine
Take The Floor is a dance show unlike any other. This brand new departure in live entertainment will not only astound but inspire you by what can be created within a 10 day deadline when like-minded people put their passions and creativity into practice.
Directors and Producers Paula Goulding & Shane McAvinchey, a world class choreography team, a stellar creative team and 50 of the worlds leading Irish dancers make Take The Floor the most dynamic Irish dance show in the world! Take The Floor are searching for a lead vocalist to star in their upcoming Irish tour this summer. Ryan will be joining the expert jury to decide the competition winner after public voting determines the top 10 video submissions. The panel will include David Downes, creator and musical composer of Celtic Woman, as well as the Producers & Directors of Take The Floor, Paula Goulding and Shane McAvinchey. The winner will be brought to train and rehearse in Ireland with industry experts and perform live on our Irish tour which takes in some of the most prestigious theatres in the country; The University Concert Hall in Limerick, The Wexford Opera House and Derry’s Millennium Forum.
As a child, Ryan unwittingly kick-started his music career as a traditional music fiddle player. Then, as a teenager, he (literally) hotfooted it into Riverdance touring the world before settling with the show in New York’s famed Gershwin Theatre on Broadway. Ryan returned to Ireland when he was 20 and began a series of career stops and starts (some of which dragged him reluctantly away from music) that culminated in Dublin in 2009. What occurred less than a year later is a fairy tale mixture of good luck, welcome happenstance, unpredictable fate and natural talent.
Armed with an acoustic guitar, a batch of cover versions and several original songs, Ryan and a musician friend began to busk in and around Dublin city centre, where they would sing and sell their CDs before being politely asked to move on. “And then one day,” recalls Ryan, “someone threw a business card into my guitar case. I picked it up and it had the words ‘ring me’ on the back of it. I phoned the guy, got a good feeling about things, and he started to put me on festival bills. And that’s how it began.”
Within a year, Ryan subsequently signed a record deal with notable Irish independent label, Rubyworks; and in May 2011, he released his debut album, The Day You Live Forever. That the album has now reached platinum sales status in Ireland is testament not only to its inherent melodic rock/pop, strengths but also to Ryan’s durable presence on the gig circuit, where amidst his own energy-driven, charismatic shows, he has supported the likes of fellow countrymen The Script, and other superstars such as Bryan Adams and Simply Red.
Ryan Sheridan’s debut album ‘The Day You Live Forever’, released by Universal Music Germany went straight to the number 1 spot in the German iTunes album charts on its release in April 2013. With multiple German primetime TV and radio appearances under his belt, and performing to approximately 100,000 people on tours with Rea Garvey and Silly, Germany is the latest country to fall under Ryan’s spell. Ryan is currently writing his new album.
